4:09 pm - Locals: Kitchener Rib & Beer Fest
I'll be heading to the Kitchener Rib & Beer Fest tonight around 7:00 and possibly Sunday afternoon again since it is going to be a nice day *knock on wood*. I don't eat ribs, but I do enjoy good company, beans, and beer. I think this will be my "practice run" for the festival in Ypsilanti, Michigan this coming weekend :)

Peace,
Rebecca

Any of my local friends are invited to come for free :) Starts today for 4 weeks. Each class will be for a different Chakra (if you're familiar with the Chakra system). Let me know if you're interested!

Peace,
Rebecca

9:34 am - What have I been up to?

Creemore Springs Brewery

Dina (an old and dear friend, friendship recently revitalized) and I took a lovely drive to Creemore last Sunday. Although the weather was grey, we sampled some delicious beer, shopped for spices, and saw lots of cats wandering about.

Raw Sweet Potato Fries

I am eating a significantly more "raw" diet as of late and lots of kitchen experiments (both successful and frightening) have ensued. The fries were successful.

John, at [info]dagibbs cottage in Quebec

I love the cottage... except this time, our tent leaked and we ended up with a car full of dirtiness that needed immediate laundering upon arriving home. Despite the slugs and the bugs, thank you [info]dagibbs for your hospitality over the long weekend!

Life is good :)

Peace,
Rebecca

10:58 am - Sprouts in Our Kitchen

For a lack of any actual content, here are some of the sprouts growing in our kitchen. We only buy Mumm's organic sprouting seeds; I plan to be putting in a large order soon.

  • Fenugreek

  • French Lentils

  • Kamut

  • Adzuki Beans

10:46 am - Washington: Last Month

Mt. Baker, Washington

Apparently I have vertigo when there are no guardrails on the side of highways when ascending a mountain.

10:35 am - Tri-Pride
Local Folks! (Kitchener/Waterloo/Cambridge/Guelph) Anyone going to TRI-PRIDE this weekend? I am thinking it would be a potentially great day for a trip to the Brick Brewery and then off to Pride for the afternoon on Saturday in Victoria Park.

Peace,
Rebecca

PS: Life is good. I am not changing cities/provinces/countries for the next month :)

11:06 am - Hot Springs, Barren Earth, and... Elves?
(Finally got around to posting about Iceland. I've written a long blog post here if you're interested!)

Quick Synopsis

- Got food poisoning and went to the hospital
- Two thumbs up to finding a local to give you a tour
- The scenery was fantastic
- Food was extremely expensive (and don't even consider ordering a mixed drink)
- Apparently, there is a large elven folklore
- Swimming outdoors in the cold is very popular because the pools are hot
- The Blue Lagoon was incredible
- There are lots of horses
- Reykjavik has a plethora of vegetarian restaurants

11:47 am - May Calendar
Enclosed is my May calendar. Please let me know if I've left anything out or if I should be including something. I'm going to be gone for parts of the month to Ottawa and Vancouver; looking forward to catching up with various folks.

OTTAWA folks: Anyone want to get together on Saturday May 9th during the day? I have a hankering to go to the St. Albert's cheese farm... or perhaps have breakfast? ([info]reyl, [info]j_v_lynch ... anyone, Bueller???)

10:23 am - I took the blue pill
Yesterday I had a root canal (suffering in pain for a few weeks now, nice to have this gone) and today, I have a whole new kind of pain and feel like I've been kicked repeatedly in the face. Not fun! I am mildly irritated by the fact that I paid for 2K worth of work, and they only had time to do the r.c. while I was under, but at least all of my dental work for the next 1-2 months is now covered (I've already exhausted my benefits in this regard) so it's sadly out of pocket. Oh well. I'll have a nice tax return next year... On an entirely positive note: I am really impressed with oral sedation. Those little blue pills are pretty powerful. Once minute, I am reading my book and at the next moment, I am waking up as the dentist is finishing his work. I don't remember anything - just the way I like it when I go to the dentist :)

Now, if only I would stop feeling nauseous from taking that Tylenol 3 this morning...

This weekend/next week, I'm looking forward to being much less of a hermit :)

Peace,
Rebecca

PS: John is just lovely. He just came in with all kinds of mushy foods for me to eat. Organic vegan lasagna and so delicious chocolate ice cream bars. Yum. Being in pain is less troublesome where there is someone loving around to be spoil-some.

11:50 am - Iceland, Ottawa, Life
Iceland was completely eventful (both +/-) but mostly (+). It was beautiful, rugged, untouched, and expensive as sin (even with the collapse of their economy). Pictures will be posted on Monday. I can't wait to go back.

We were supposed to be in Ottawa this weekend, but an event that we were attending (that we thought was in Ottawa) is, in actuality, in Gananoque. Therefore, we canceled our flights and are driving. Both flights are now mine. I rescheduled 2 flights and will be in Ottawa May 8th-10th and May 29th-31th (WJ arriving 10:15 pm Friday, departing 5:00 pm Sunday) both times. I would love to see people!

Tonight, we're going to Orangeville for a raw foods dinner, a lecture by Dr. Brian Clement of the Hippocrates Health Institute, and drumming and dancing. Tomorrow, we will be up bright and early for a beautiful 4 hour drive to Gananoque.

I am beyond blissful that it's finally (truly) spring outside.

Peace,
Rebecca

12:13 pm - Life's Little Joys
I am enjoying life's little (and big!) joys. As of late, I am finding more time to be social and I've discovered how sincerely I enjoy the company of certain people - [info]bridgeoutahead and [info]moonlight_mile especially come to mind as of late. Work is not torturing me the way it has been for the past several months, and I am still sweetly happy with my John, despite our occasional foibles and (little) roller coasters. I am really excited about our Easter in Iceland (Reykjavik even seems to have a decent selection of vegetarian and vegan options for dining), and then coming home to another few days in Ottawa with other of my favourite people. Ottawa people, I would love to try to squeeze in a few more visits on either the 19th or the 20th if possible, but I'll confirm this stuff when we get home from the great Nordic north.

Peace,
Rebecca

Enclosed is my April calendar. Please let me know if I've left anything out or if I should be including something. Still trying to finalize Ottawa plans for the 19th and 20th. Weekend of the 25th and 26th is still open, but I might just leave it that way - it's going to be a busy and adventurous month.

12:14 pm - Seeds, Cars, Trips, Social
[info]nobodyhere introduced me to Little City Farm over the weekend. We went for a seedling workshop, but I'm planning to go back for most of their workshops over the upcoming months. If anyone is interested in joining me for any of their workshops, that would be fantastic.

12:18 pm - Locals: Raw Potluck
Friday night, John and I are having a raw food potluck in Guelph, 7:00 pm. Anyone interested? We definitely have room for a few more. [info]persephoneplace, as per our conversation Monday evening, we should have lots of yummy dessert-like leftovers for me to deliver to you on Monday to sample.

Peace,
Rebecca

PS: I'm making stuffed warm mushrooms. They are drool worthy!

I don't seem to post much anymore (but I still read you all)... life is good. I'm becoming less busy, and I'm enjoying "being". John and I have met some fantastic new friends in Guelph, we're busy planning trips and such, planning life and such, and everything is quite yummy.

12:54 pm - Life Recap / Trip Planning
It seems I am very much like [info]horsetraveller in the fact that I would much rather plan trips than shop for clothes :)

- Had a great, but tiring vacate in OC/Mexico last weekend - I'll eventually post about it
- Spent an interesting w/e in Niagara this weekend past
- Rather randomly, we have decided to go to Iceland for Easter
- Thinking of using my WestJet credit for a Halifax trip over the May long w/e
- I am hoping to use abuse Air Canada for a trip to Ottawa soon
- We have no idea what we are going to do with the rest of our aeroplan points

In a nutshell, life is pretty good. Busy, of course, but good. There is happiness :)

I'm really looking forward to this upcoming long weekend to relax and get caught up on all my Yoga Teacher Training work, and to finish a couple of web sites - but nothing too strenuous.

Peace,
Rebecca
